| THE WHITE STAR CELLAR | ||
The cellar in the
White Star is unusual as its below the river level at some high tides
over 10 metres, and used to flood twice a year up until 1990 when the
new manager came in, the now lessee Mr Alfie Buxton who designed a ballcock
type stopper.
A cage of plastic coated fence wire was constructed, just big enough to take a size 5 football. So when there is a high tide the ball floats to the top and makes a seal. |
